Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) is scheduled to be a top speaker at a May fundraiser for the Iowa Republican Party, the Des Moines Register reported Tuesday.

“Senator Rand Paul’s 13-hour filibuster earlier this month caught the attention of Republicans across the nation who are seeking GOP leaders who will stand up to Barack Obama,” Iowa Republican Party Chairman A.J. Spiker said in a statement, according to the Des Moines Register. “As the first-in-the-nation state, we immediately extended an invite to Senator Paul to allow him to introduce himself to Iowa Republicans.”

Paul is seen as a potential 2016 candidate. He said recently that he is seriously considering a run, and has reportedly had two meetings so far on a potential bid.

Tickets for the May 10 event range from $50 to $150, according to an event web page
