Evangelical conservative leader Ralph Reed says he’s “disappointed” with Herman Cain’s decision to leave the presidential race after a long series of gaffes and allegations of sexual misconduct.
“I am disappointed Herman Cain dropped out but respect his decision,” Reed tweeted Saturday. “He’s a great American who will continue to make a difference.”
Reed now runs the Faith And Freedom Coalition, a grassroots organizing group that tries to bring together tea party Republicans and evangelical conservatives. Not all conservative leaders share his view of Cain’s exit: Earlier Saturday, tea party star Rep. Steve King (R-IA) said Cain’s campaign was “over.”
