Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney took a lead in the polls of the South Carolina Republican primary last week, and it looks like the same thing is happening in Florida, the fourth primary state. Romney leads in new Quinnipiac University numbers of the state with 36 percent, twelve points ahead of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 24.
It’s been an epic fall for Gingrich, who was cruising the state during his surge, but whose support has been cut in half over the last month or so. Third is the near winner of the Iowa Caucuses, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum with 16 percent, and Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) gets 10. Former Ambassador and Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman sees 2 percent.
