The office of Arkansas Sen. Mark Pryor (D) says that a press release promising an internship in Pryor’s office to the winner of the reality show “The Search for the Hottest Girl in America” is a hoax. Tuesday night, a press release from PRNewswire called “Girl Gone Wild Goes to Washington” announced that the show had an extra prize for the winner. The explanation was that Joe Francis, founder of “Girls Gone Wild,” wanted to add the internship to empower women.

According to Francis, “At this time more than ever, women need strong representation in Washington. Women’s issues and rights have been completely assaulted by the Republican candidates during this year’s Republican primaries.” Francis goes on to say, “When this opportunity presented itself, I felt there was no better way to empower women than to send the winner of Girls Gone Wild’s ‘Search for the Hottest Girl in America’ contest to Washington D.C. I truly believe that women, not men, should be making decisions for women in this country.” Look out Elle Woods, it appears the Hottest Girl in America will be trading her bikini for a business suit.
Pryor’s communications director said Wednesday morning that it was a hoax, via National Journal:
“This release is a hoax,” Ackerman said. “This office does not sell, auction or donate internships. Internship positions are determined through an extensive application process. Unfortunately, as Mark Pryor moves into the 2014 election cycle this is the kind of stupid, out-of-left field attacks you will see.”
