Charges of premeditated murder were formally brought against South African Olympian Oscar Pistorius on Friday, the Associated Press reported.
Pistorius reportedly wept as prosecutors announced the charges in a magistrate’s court in Pretoria, the capital of South Africa.
Known as the “blade runner,” the 26-year-old Pistorius became the first double amputee to compete on an Olympic track when he ran at the 2012 London games. He is being charged with the murder of his girlfriend, supermodel Reeva Steenkamp.
