The progressive advocacy group CREDO Action is stepping up its pressure campaign against Steny Hoyer, one of the most powerful Democrats in Washington, to prevent Congress from passing legislation that would cut Medicare, Medicaid or Social Security.
Ads targeted at Hoyer’s Maryland constituents and high-information, liberal voters raise the possibility that Hoyer would back legislation that cuts Social Security. Hoyer has been working with a bipartisan group of House and Senate members to craft legislation that significantly reduces budget deficits. He and other members of the group say that everything, including tax increases and entitlement cuts, are up for discussion.
