Progressive Reps. Keith Ellison (D-MN) and Alan Grayson (D-FL) on Wednesday called on supporters to push back against cuts to Social Security and Medicare in President Obama budget, including a proposal to limit the growth of Social Security benefits by indexing them to a cost of living calculator known as “Chained CPI.”

“I would feel awful to think that people would spend 40 or even 50 years working and contributing into the system and then when it’s their turn, we say to them, ‘S.O.L.,'” Grayson said on a call organized by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee.

“Put all your time and energy into defeating this thing,” Ellison said on the call. “We need people to organize all over this country.”

“Social Security is one of the best programs that this country’s ever come up with to help working people, and I’m gonna stand with it,” Ellison said.
