In an effort to boost the Affordable Care Act’s enrollment numbers among young people, insurers and advocacy groups are urging mothers to get their kids to sign up for health insurance.

The New York Times reported Tuesday on an emerging strategy to get young people to sign up through the health care law’s exchanges. In a campaign launched by the AARP, mothers are encouraged to send e-cards to their children.

“As a reward for signing up for health insurance, I’ll defriend you on Facebook,” reads one card.

Organizing for Action — the nonprofit spawned from President Obama’s campaign operation — asks parents to discuss health care with their children over the holidays.
