On MSNBC Thursday morning, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus discussed the RNC’s call for an investigation into whether President Obama has been campaigning on taxpayer dollars.

“We’re going to push it as far as the law will allow,” Priebus said. “What I’m saying is that he has now crossed the line into what’s reasonable behavior by an incumbent president using taxpayer money to campaign and what’s not.”

Priebus argued that Obama’s speeches at three universities this week, in which he pressured Congress to reauthorize a federal student loan subsidy plan, were, in fact, campaign appearances.

“These are campaign rallies. These are people chanting, ‘Four more years.’ These are handpicked crowds behind the president. Very well, carefully staged,” Priebus said Thursday.

The White House responded to the accusation on Wednesday night: “This week’s travel has been part of the president’s official responsibility to get outside of Washington, D.C., hear from students and discuss stopping interest rates on their loans from doubling in July.”
