Michigan is set to dole out thirty delegates based on last night’s Republican primary. Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney attained two of those delegates by winning the popular vote in the state, and the rest are awarded by the winner in each of the state’s fourteen congressional districts, two at a time. And preliminary results posted by the Michigan Republican Party show that Romney and former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) may win the same amount of delegates based on that system.

The Party says that a number of results are still outstanding, but as of now Santorum leads in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, and 13th, leaving the rest to Romney. Were those numbers to hold, that would mean 16 delegates for Romney, and 14 for Santorum. View the results here.

The AP delegate count shows them spilt in Michigan, 11 for both Romney and Santorum, as votes are still being tallied.

Of course, invaluable to the Romney camp was winning the PR war that were he to lose the vote in Michigan, it would be deathblow to his candidacy.
