Just how much has Sarah Palin’s standing in Alaska slipped? Voters there have a higher opinion of an historically unpopular Congress, according to the latest survey from Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling.
Eighty-two percent of Alaska voters said they have an unfavorable opinion of Congress — mirroring nationwide surveys and results in other states — compared with just eight percent have a favorable opinion. According to Gallup, the congressional approval rating in 2012 dipped to an all-time low.
But even so, PPP found that voters in Alaska have a higher opinion of Congress than their former half-term governor and one-time Republican vice presidential nominee. Fifty percent said they have a higher opinion of Congress, while 34 percent said they have a higher opinion of Palin.
The vast majority of voters there, 78 percent, said they do not want Palin to run for president in 2016. If she did and were pitted against Hillary Clinton in the general election, PPP showed that the former secretary of state would carry the state by a comfortable margin of 16 points.
