Democratic Rep. Chris Murphy and Republican former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon are each favored to win their party primaries in the Connecticut Senate race, a new poll from Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling shows — with Murphy also favored over McMahon in the general election, in the race to succeed independent Sen. Joe Lieberman.

The Democratic primary survey shows Murphy leading former Connecticut Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz by a margin of 49 percent to 32 percent. On the Republican side, McMahon is steamrolling former Rep. Christopher Shays by a margin of 68 percent to 20 percent.

The surveys of 400 likely Democratic primary voters, and 400 likely Republican primary voters, were conducted from July 26-29, and each have a 4.9 percent margin of error. The primary will be held August 14.

In the general election match-up, Murphy leads with 50 percent, compared to McMahon at 42 percent. The survey of 771 likely general election voters was conducted from July 26-29, and has a 3.5 percent margin of error
