In South Carolina, Gov. Nikki Haley (R) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) appear to be in good shape against a potential primary challenger in 2014, according to a Public Policy Polling survey released Tuesday.
Fifty-three percent of Republicans want her to be their nominee in 2014, the poll found. Pitted against specific possible challengers, Haley fares even better. But Haley’s overall job approval is under water, with 42 percent approving to 49 percent disapproving.
Graham, considered vulnerable to a primary challenge, appears in good shape too. Graham’s standing with Republicans has improved dramatically over the past year, and Republican primary voters would support him 51 percent to 40 percent over a generic conservative challenger.
The polls, conducted Dec. 7 – 9, surveyed 520 South Carolina voters with a margin of error of +/- 4.3 percentage points and an oversample of 506 Republican primary voters with a margin of error of +/- 4.4 percentage points.
