New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) remains an overwhelming favorite to win re-election in the state’s gubernatorial race this year, according to the latest Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.

Fifty-eight percent of registered voters in the Garden State said they will vote for Christie while only 26 percent said they will support his little-known Democratic challenger, state Sen. Barbara Buono. It’s little change from Quinnipiac’s poll a month ago, when 60 percent said they intended to vote for Christie and a mere quarter of voters said they planned to vote for Buono.

Christie continues to be enormously popular among his constituents, with 66 percent of voters in the state saying they have a favorable opinion of him and 67 percent saying they approve of the job he is doing as governor. By contrast, 78 percent of voters said they haven’t heard enough of Buono.

“She’s running an energetic campaign, piling up endorsements, but State Sen. Barbara Buono, who wants to be New Jersey’s next governor, hasn’t been able to introduce herself yet to New Jersey voters,” Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, wrote in the survey’s release.

The PollTracker Average reflects the commanding lead Christie has enjoyed throughout his re-election campaign.
