A new poll from Pew shows that the US’s current partisan divide extends to views on the nation’s tax structure and wealth disparity. While 60 percent of Republicans surveyed believe the upper class pays either a fair share or too many federal taxes, 78 percent of Democrats believe upper-income individuals pay too little.
Such a split is also mirrored in each party’s views on the opposing party’s stances on the upper class. Ninety-three percent of the Democrats surveyed believe the GOP favors the upper class, while only 26 percent of registered Republicans share the same view. Meanwhile, 48 percent of those Republicans viewed the Democratic Party as favoring the poor, while 26 percent of Democrats agreed.
