A man was fatally shot by police in Escondido, California, reports the Associated Press. A bomb squad later searched his car, where they found seven pipe bombs and a large amount of ammunition.
The man, reportedly a known felon, was being trailed by police when he realized he was being followed and attempted to flee. His SUV crashed into a wall, and the man produced a shotgun, police told the AP. After he shot at the officers, they fired back, killing him.
