Planned Parenthood’s political arm attacked Mitt Romney Tuesday over comments made by top surrogate Norm Coleman, who told an audience in Ohio Monday that Roe v. Wade would be safe in a Romney administration. Dawn Laguens, vice president of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, said Coleman’s promise that Roe would survive an Romney administration was an example of the Republican’s “last-ditch attempts to deceive voters about his commitment to ending safe and legal abortion.”

“Mitt Romney’s agenda for women’s health is deeply unpopular and dangerous. He has vowed to end safe and legal abortion, end funding for Planned Parenthood’s preventive care that millions of people rely on, and repeal the Affordable Care Act and the coverage of birth control with no co-pay,” she said in a statement. “The more women learn about Mitt Romney’s position, the less likely they are to support him, and that’s why he’s trying so hard to muddy the waters in the final days of this campaign.”

Romney’s desire to see Roe v. Wade reversed has been well-documented. Advocates on both sides of the abortion issue agree that the landmark Supreme Court ruling is more likely to be reversed if Romney is elected.
