After a meeting at the White House with President Obama, Vice President Biden and law enforcement officials from across the country, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey on Monday outlined steps that can be taken in the near-term to reduce gun violence.

“Let’s get meaningful legislation on the books that’s gonna actually make a difference,” Ramsey told CNN. “Things like universal background checks, which may seem simple on the surface, but it’s something that would be of help.”

Ramsey called for information on guns to be more easily shared and obtained. “We lose an enormous amount of man hours just tracing a gun, only to find out it was lost or stolen, you know, five years ago or 10 years ago.”

He added: “There are meaningful things that can be done relatively soon, I believe.”
