Texas Gov. Rick Perry told the Values Voter Summit on Friday that he has “lived and breathed” the issue of illegal immigration “for over a decade as a border governor.”

“I know first hand the failures of our federal border policies, and I know the answer to those problems is not to grant amnesty to those who broke the laws to get into the country,” Perry said.

“That’s why I signed legislation requiring a photo ID to vote in order to protect the integrity of our elections,” Perry said.
