Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) on Sunday slammed the Affordable Care Act rollout, criticizing President Obama for lying to Americans about being able to stay on their health insurance plan.
Perry said that Obama’s apology last week was not sufficient.
“I don’t think that’s even close to enough,” Perry said on ABC’s “This Week.” “He needs to stand up in front of the American people and say, you know what? I perpetuated a fraud on you.”
Perry also said Obama had no business traveling to Texas to push a Medicaid expansion in the state.
“For him to come into the state of Texas and say you all should join up in a broken system is a pretty hollow statement,” Perry said. “The fact is that people in the state of Texas are smart enough to know they do not want to participate in a program that has every bit as big a chance of getting to the shore as the Titanic did.”
He said that Republicans should have held Obama more accountable for the health care law, rather than trying to use a shutdown as leverage to defund the law.
“It would have been wiser for us to have laid the wood to the president, so to speak,” Perry said. “You know, call him out on this.”
Perry, who was in the key primary state Iowa this week, did not rule out another presidential run.
“Second chances are what America has always been about,” he said, adding that “nominees have all had to run more than once.”
