At a meeting with bloggers at the Heritage Foundation Tuesday, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins said the shooting at his group’s headquarters last month will affect security at this week’s annual Values Voter Summit.

“There will be a large contingent of armed security at VVS,” Perkins said. He noted that the Secret Service will also be on hand for Paul Ryan’s scheduled Friday address.

Perkins said his group has not “backed down” following the shooting, which left one staffer injured.

“We haven’t shrunk back,” Perkins said. “I learned something in the Marine Corps: If you’re taking fire, you must be close to the target.”
