House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell asked House Republicans to pass a short-term payroll tax cut extension:

“As Senator McConnell’s statement today makes clear, the only thing standing between 160 million Americans and a tax increase is House Republicans’ refusal to act.

“Today, House Democratic leaders sent a letter to Speaker Boehner calling for swift and immediate passage of the Senate bill, preventing a middle class tax hike on January 1 and allowing us to work toward a yearlong extension.

“House Republicans now stand alone. It’s time to pass the bipartisan Senate compromise and give the gift of certainty and economic security to all American families in the new year.”
