A spokesperson for Pandora Radio has provided TPM the following response to an article in The Wall Street Journal stating that Apple is working on its own competing Web radio service:

Pandora launched seven years ago to redefine radio by providing a truly personalized experience. At that time, Yahoo, AOL and MSN dominated internet radio, and every year new entities have tried to enter the market. Pandora’s unique focus on personalization, built on more than a decade of human music analysis and playlist technology informed by tens of billions of listener interactions, has created a massive, loyal audience. We view all this activity and experimentation as yet another sign that the transition from broadcast radio to Internet radio is continuing to accelerate. We believe our laser focus on personalization will continue to provide our listeners with the world’s best radio experience and expand our leadership.

In short: Bring it on, Apple. It’s worth noting that Pandora is one of the most popular iPhone and iPad apps of all time by number of downloads
