Palin Pitches To Populist Wing Of The Tea Party

Sarah Palin is still teasing the media and the country at large with the possibility of a Presidential run. Now, even as prominent Republican figures are urging her to make a final call and end the coy dance, it seems she’s mixing things up again, this time by hewing to the populist edges of the tea party. This morning, the media got around to unpicking comments she made at a Tea Party event in Iowa over the weekend. The NYT reports along with her usual attacks on the ‘far left,’ she picked up some of the angrier “curse on both your houses” tea party themes.

She made three interlocking points. First, that the United States is now governed by a ‘permanent political class,’ drawn from both parties, that is increasingly cut off from the concerns of regular people. Second, that these Republicans and Democrats have allied with big business to mutual advantage to create what she called ‘corporate crony capitalism.’ Third, that the real political divide in the United States may no longer be between friends and foes of Big Government, but between friends and foes of vast, remote, unaccountable institutions (both public and private).

Some have begun speculating about the possibility of a third party run for Palin and her remarks seem calculated to fan the fires of that speculation; Matt Drudge was amongst those linking to the article this morning.
