Sarah Palin endorsed Rep. Jeff Flake on Monday in his bid for the Republican Senate nomination in Arizona. Flake is the favorite to win the nomination but is caught in what has turned out to be a tough primary with business owner Wil Cardon.

Though Cardon is further to the right, Flake has garnered support from tea party groups like FreedomWorks as well as more establishment figures like Sen. John McCain. In a letter to Flake announcing her support, Palin defended Flake’s conservative credentials, saying he is “credited by many as the leading anti-earmark crusader in the House” and “just the sort of ‘relentless reformer’ we need in the Senate. He will bring his fight against our crippling debt, reckless spending, and wasteful earmarks to the Senate.”

The winner of the Republican primary will face former Surgeon General Richard Carmona in the general election. Flake announced Palin’s support over Twitter Monday.
