Orlando, Fla. Mayor Buddy Dyer (D) on Wednesday announced that he will not challenge Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) in the state’s gubernatorial race next year, the Miami Herald reported.

“So, after careful consideration, I’ve decided that I will not run for governor,” Dyer said at the end of his annual State of the City address, according to the Herald. “I believe that I have a responsibility to the people of Orlando to finish what we started.”

A survey from Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling released last month showed Dyer trailing the politically vulnerable Scott by four points in a hypothetical matchup.
