Television personality and entertainment mogul Oprah Winfrey will deliver the commencement address at Harvard University this spring, the school’s newspaper reported Monday.
She will speak May 30 at the “Afternoon Exercises,” which doubles as the school alumni association’s annual meeting.
Harvard made the announcement Monday in a statement from its president that was posted on the Harvard Gazette:
“Oprah’s journey from her grandmother Mississippi farm to becoming one of the world’s most admired women is one of the great American success stories, said Harvard President Drew Faust. “She has used her extraordinary influence and reach as a force for good in the world, with a constant focus on the importance of educational opportunity and the virtues of serving others.”
