Ohio Democrats responded to Gov. John Kasich’s endorsement of Mitt Romney Thursday by calling Romney and the unpopular governor “two peas in a pod.” Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern reminded voters in a statement that the two governors have things common on issues like Medicare, the auto industry bailout and taxes:

“Today’s announcement that John Kasich has endorsed Mitt Romney for the Republican presidential nominee should come as no surprise. After all, they have a lot in common.

“From supporting John Kasich’s anti-union bill, an outright attack on middle class Ohioans that was resoundingly rejected at the polls last November, to pushing to ‘get rid of’ funding for Planned Parenthood in Ohio and nationwide, Mitt Romney and John Kasich are like two peas in a pod. Together they support efforts to end Medicare as we know it and support a tax plan that helps the wealthiest Americans and oil companies at the expense of middle-class families.

“While John Kasich conveniently ignores President Obama’s efforts to save Ohio’s auto industry which employs 1 in 8 Ohioans, Mitt Romney goes even further by saying we should have just ‘let Detroit go bankrupt.’ They also both stubbornly refuse to acknowledge the improving Ohio economy that is largely due to President Obama’s policies and in spite of Kasich and the right-wing legislature.

“The fact of the matter is that the Kasich-Romney team wants to go back to the same policies that caused the recession in the first place.”
