President Obama on Wednesday went after Mitt Romney’s comment in Tuesday night’s debate that he collected “binders full of women” in order to find women to appoint to his cabinet as governor of Massachussets.
“We don’t have to collect a bunch of binders to find qualified women ready to learn in these fields right now,” Obama said at a rally at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. “When young women graduate, they should get equal pay for equal work. That should be a simple question to answer.”
He continued:
When Gov. Romney was asked about it, his campaign said we will get back to you. That should not be a complicated question. People — equal pay for equal work. I want my daughters paid like somebody else’s son is paid for the same job. That is the way forward.
Obama also noted that Romney’s adviser said that Romney did not support the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. It was “the first bill I signed into law,” Obama said.
