President Obama took Republican challenger Mitt Romney to task on Friday over a widely criticized Jeep ad that tied a planned expansion of Jeep operations in China to the fate of Jeep workers in Ohio.

“The car companies themselves had told Gov. Romney to knock it off!” Obama told supporters in Hilliard, Ohio, after statements by GM and Chrysler officials denounced the ad. “It’s hard to runaway from that postiion when you’re on videotape saying the words ‘let Detroit go bankrupt.'”

“This isn’t a game,” Obama continued. “You don’t scare hard-working Americans just to scare up some votes. That’s not what president’s being about. That’s not leadership.”
