President Barack Obama on Friday is expected to announce his intention to nominate former Defense Department general counsel Jeh Johnson to serve in the top post at the Department of Homeland Security, according to multiple media reports.

The White House said Obama will make a “personnel announcement” at 2 p.m. ET in the Rose Garden.

Johnson will be Obama’s choice to replace former Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, who stepped down from the cabinet post to serve as president of the University of California system.
