President Barack Obama thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday for the latter’s “cooperation” following the deadly bombings at the Boston Marathon.

Obama made his remarks following a bilateral meeting with Putin at the G8 Summit in Lough Erne, Northern Ireland.

“Well, I had a very useful conversation with President Putin, and I began by thanking him again for the cooperation that they’ve provided in dealing with the tragedy of the bombing at the Boston Marathon,” Obama said, according to a White House transcript. “We have a shared interest in countering terrorist violence, and we are continuing to strengthen our cooperation on this issue, including as we welcome Russia hosting the Winter Olympics in Sochi.”

The Russian government had warned the U.S. about deceased suspected bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev in 2011, but the FBI did not share those warnings with Boston police.
