President Obama said in his State of the Union speech that America must give equal treatment to gay and straight service members.
“We will ensure equal treatment for all service members, and equal benefits for their families – gay and straight,” Obama said, according to prepared remarks.
The president also mentioned lifting the ban on women serving in combat positions. “We will draw upon the courage and skills of our sisters and daughters, because women have proven under fire that they are ready for combat,” he said.
