President Obama is planning a visit to Israel this spring, his first visit as president, the Associated Press reports. Obama visited Israel while a candidate for president in 2008.
The White House says Obama spoke about the visit with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Jan. 28. That’s when Obama congratulated Netanyahu on his success in Israel’s recent election.
Obama will also visit the West Bank and Jordan, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney announced Tuesday. A date for the trip has yet to be announced, Carney added that Obama’s second term is an opportunity to work with with Israel and to discuss issues like Syria and Iran.
