Continuing a presidential tradition that began in 1989, President Obama pardoned two plump turkeys today to mark tomorrow’s Thanksgiving holiday.

Obama’s daughters Sasha and Malia stood by his side as he pardoned the turkeys, named Liberty and Peace. They will be transported to an estate in Mount Vernon, Virgina.

During the ceremony, Obama reminded Americans to be “grateful for what we have and be mindful of those who have less.”
