President Obama and Afghan President Hamid Karzai met at the White House on Friday to discuss the future of U.S.-Afghan relations.

The two leaders also explored the possibility the extent of a post-2014 U.S. troop presence in Afghanistan that would serve to support Afghan forces in their effort to pressure al-Qaeda, according to a joint statement. The U.S. made clear that it does not seek permanent military bases in the country.
