Obama Directs DOJ To Give Congress Legal Basis For Drone Strikes

President Obama has directed the Department of Justice to provide the House and Senate intelligence committees the administration’s legal basis for authorizing drone strikes against U.S. citizens believed to be senior al-Qaeda members.

John Brennan, Obama’s nominee for CIA director, is scheduled to appear before the Senate Intelligence Committee Thursday afternoon for a confirmation hearing. Brennan, previously the White House’s chief counterterrorism adviser, is reportedly the architect of the administration’s drone policy and is expected to face tough question’s on the subject at Thursday’s hearing.
