President Obama castigated Mitt Romney at the town hall debate, for his comment about the lower tax rate on capital gains during a recent “60 Minutes” interview.
“Gov. Romney has a different philosophy. He was on ’60 Minutes’ just two weeks ago, he was asked: Is it fair for somebody like you, making $20 million a year, to pay a lower tax rate and interest than a bus driver, someone making $50,000 a year?
“He said, ‘I think that is fair.’ He said, ‘I think that is what grows the economy.’ I fundamentally disagree with that. I think what grows the economy is when you get that tax credit we put in place for your kids going to college. I think that runs the economy. I think what was the economy is when we make sure small businesses are getting a tax credit for hiring veterans. That grows our economy. We have a different theory.”
