During an informal meeting at a nuclear security summit in South Korea President Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao agreed to coordinate their response to a North Korean rocket launch scheduled for mid April. Mr. Hu has signaled that the Chinese government shares concerns about North Korea’s intentions. President Obama welcomed President Hu’s concerns in a statement before the meeting.

“We both have an interest in making sure that international norms surrounding non-proliferation, preventing destabilising nuclear weapons, is very important,”

But, Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes suggested that China’s concerns have not affected North Korean policy in the past.

“China has expressed those concerns before and North Korea has continued on with its behaviour,”
