Fox News commentator Bill O’Reilly on Tuesday unleashed a characteristic tirade against liberal pundit Alan Colmes in a dispute over President Barack Obama’s proposed spending cuts.
Appearing on O’Reilly’s eponymous program, Colmes — formerly the liberal counterpart to Fox’s Sean Hannity — agreed that Obama is making an effort to put the House of Representatives in control of the Democrats next year. O’Reilly suggested that the President was doing so “at the expense of the folks.”
“The President’s willing to have Americans suffer for the greater good of trying to have Nancy Pelosi be the new speaker of the House,” O’Reilly asserted, adding that Obama refuses compromise with Republicans.
When O’Reilly lambasted Obama for not proposing any spending cuts to specific government programs, Colmes tried feebly to rebut.
“That’s not true,” Colmes said, prompting O’Reilly to flash his famous temper.
“Hold it. Hold it. Now I’m getting t’d off with you. Give me one damn program he said he’d cut.” O’Reilly said angrily before repeatedly accusing Colmes of lying.
“We can have a disagreement without you calling me a liar. That’s not necessary,” Colmes said.
When O’Reilly demanded to hear one specific program that Obam would cut, Colmes correctly pointed out that Obama has proposed billions of dollars in reductions to Medicare and Medicaid. But O’Reilly insisted that the example wasn’t specific enough, eventually declaring, “This is just bull-blank!”
