Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley is launching a political action committee to support federal candidates and ballot initiatives in Maryland, reports Roll Call.

As head of the Democratic Governor’s Association and a prominent Obama surrogate, O’Malley is considered a top Democratic presidential contender in 2016. O’Malley’s stint as head of the DGA ends at the end of 2012, and term limits will force him out of the governor’s office in 2014. His new O Say Can You See PAC will be one way to stay in the conversation.

Among the ballot initiatives the PAC will support are two items on the November ballot in Maryland, including one that will affirm or reject the state’s legalization of same-sex marriage. O’Malley is also in favor of a ballot initiative to allow undocumented immigrants to use in-state tuition rates at Maryland’s public universities.
