New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Thursday that while more than 5,000 schools in New York City have armed police officers, it’s not a “universal need, by any means.”
Kelly shot down the National Rifle Association’s call to put an armed guard in every school in America. People who enter schools with the intention of shooting people are on a “suicide mission” and expect to die,” Kelly said on MSNBC. The first person a shooter would likely seek out is an armed guard, he added.
“This is by no means a panacea,” he said of the NRA proposal.
