Republicans should avoid another government shutdown, the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee urged Friday.

NRCC Chairman Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR), speaking at a Christian Science Monitor breakfast, was asked if upcoming government funding and debt ceiling deadlines would force another government shutdown.

Walden said “it shouldn’t, we should keep the government open and operating.”

Republicans largely suffered after the October government shutdown over pushes from within the party to try and defund Obamacare. Walden added that next time Republicans would “work through” any possible internal divisions to avert such a disaster again.
