National Rifle Association executive director Wayne LaPierre responded to President Obama’s second inaugural address Tuesday evening, accusing the President’s of making a “mockery” of the Declaration of Independence. LaPierre highlighted a line of Obama’s speech — “We cannot mistake absolutism for principle — and said it amounts to “Obama code” for extremism.
“We’re told that wanting the same technology that the criminals and our elites are protected by for themselves is a form of absolutism,” LaPierre said at the Weatherby International Hunting and Conservation Awards in Reno, Nev. “Barack Obama is saying the only principled way to make children safe is to make lawful citizens less safe, and violent criminals more safe. That’s what it amounts to.”
