House Speaker John Boehner said earlier this week it wasn’t proper to criticize President Obama over conversation with Russian President Dimtry Medvedev caught on an open mic recently while Obama was overseas.
But after Air Force One landed on the American mainland Wednesday, all bets were off. ABC’s Jake Tapper reports:
“[Boehner] sent a letter to the president saying he was ‘alarmed to learn of the message you sent to incoming Russian President Vladimir Putin while in South Korea Monday.'”
The hot mic moment has become a key talking point for Mitt Romney, and Boehner’s earlier statement was seen as a repudiation of Romney’s plan to push it as a campaign issue. Now, however, Romney and Boehner are on the same page.
