A North Carolina-based Democratic strategist died early Wednesday after she and her husband were stabbed in their home on Monday night, the Raleigh News & Observer reported.
Jamie Kirk Hahn, the 29-year-old founder of the Democratic firm Sky Blue Strategies, was fatally stabbed in her home in northern Raleigh, N.C. Her 27-year-old husband, Nation Hahn, who is also involved in Democratic politics, was stabbed but released from a hospital after being treated for injuries.
Jonathan Broyhill, a friend of the couple, will be arrested and charged with murder as well as assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. According to the News & Observer, Broyhill previously worked with Jamie Hahn at Sky Blue Strategies. Broyhill will be served the arrest warrants when he is released from WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, where he is receiving treatment for self-inflicted stabbing wounds. Police found Broyhill at the Hahns’ home when they responded to a 911 call on Monday night.
The firm’s website indicates that it’s worked on behalf of the North Carolina Democratic Party and the Coalition to Protect All NC Families, the group that led the opposition to the state’s constitutional ban on same-sex marriage that passed last year.
On Wednesday morning, Nation Hahn expressed sadness over the loss of his wife on his Twitter account:
I have no idea what I am going to do without @jamiehahn. She was my center, my rock and my soulmate.
