Former Sen. Norm Coleman (R) on Thursday said that he will not seek any public office in 2014, ending speculation that he would run in Minnesota’s gubernatorial race next year after announcing in January that he would pass on a rematch against Sen. Al Franken (D-MN).
Coleman made the announcement on his Twitter page:
Public service is an important part of my life.It will remain so even though I will not run for public office in 2014.

In January, Coleman said he would not challenge his old foe Franken in Minnesota’s U.S. Senate race next year, but he kept the door open for a gubernatorial bid. Like Franken, who defeated Coleman in 2008, Minnesota’s Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton will be up for re-election in 2014.
