A bill that would put gun purchase information on New Jersey driver’s licenses is on its way to Gov. Chris Christie’s (R) desk.

The Star-Ledger reported that New Jersey’s state Senate passed it 22-16 on Thursday. Republicans have long opposed the bill.

It is unclear how Christie will receive the measure. If signed, the bill would allow for instant background checks and would require gun buyers to prove that they have passed a safety-training course. It would also require dealers to log Internet ammunition sales in real time.
