South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley says there is no GOP “war on women,” as Democrats charge. “This is a president that is trying to create distractions,” Haley said on Fox News Tuesday morning. “There is no war on women. Women are doing well.”

Haley, a Mitt Romney campaign surrogate, has been working to calm down fears about a gender gap for Romney and Republicans that has surfaced in recent polls by denying that the GOP is hostile to women. Haley isn’t the only one: Over the last few days, Republicans have been trying to erase the contraception wars. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and RNC Chairman Reince Priebus have said in recent days that the “war” is made up.

ThinkProgress took issue with Haley’s contention that women are doing well, noting lingering pay disparities, and the fact that men have received the lion’s share of new jobs as the economy recovers.
