Newt Gingrich pushed back on the interpretation that he had come short of fully endorsing Mitt Romney on Sunday’s Face the Nation. “As far as I’m concerned, I’ve endorsed him,” Gingrich told host Bob Schieffer, saying he intended to hit the trail for Romney in the near future.
Gingrich, who throughout his campaign attacked Romney as a “Massachusetts moderate,” said that compared to Obama he is a conservative.
“The fact is, compared to Barack Obama, Mitt Romney is a solid conservative,” he said. Gingrich called Obama “the most radical president in American history” and “failed” on the economy. On the other hand, he said, Romney has a “solid record on jobs” and “on basic principles is a conservative.”
